« In the fields of web design and the development of mobile applications and websites, the two disciplines UX design (User Experience) and UI design (User Interface) are often confused. At first glance, they seem to describe the same thing since they are usually combined under the single term “UI/UX design.” Although they share the same goal of optimizing conversion rates, these two concepts should not be considered identical. In this article, you will gain a clearer understanding of their relationship and what differentiates them. »

What is User Experience (UX)?

UX, short for User Experience, refers to the feelings and experience of a user while interacting with a mobile application, visiting a website, or using any functional software. The goal is to make the user’s experience relevant and to guide them toward completing actions in a pleasant and secure environment.

To be effective, UX must take into account the user’s expectations and needs regarding visual and textual content, as well as functionalities and website architecture. Once user needs are identified, the site must be easy to find, which requires SEO work before UX, accessible through responsive design that adapts to most screens, and ergonomic, with design and graphics choices that engage users.

What is User Interface (UI)?

UI, short for User Interface, concerns primarily the visible and perceptible part of UX. UI focuses on visual appearance, meaning the graphic presentation of a mobile application or website. To enhance the user experience, designers focus on applying technical standards included in the editorial guidelines (graphic, textual, and web parameters), delivering a functional and attractive design.

Throughout the UX design process, UI designers focus on the web interface. They ensure technical needs are met, such as typography/fonts, colors, buttons, text and image fields, interface animations, etc. Essentially, they engage in deep planning to decide how a mobile application or website will look.

Differences between UI design and UX design:

UX is a comprehensive process that includes both visible and invisible elements for users. These elements encompass UI, content creation, and site architecture. However, efforts should not focus solely on UI, because an attractive design alone is insufficient to deliver a satisfying and high-quality user experience. For this reason, UI should not be equated with UX but should integrate into it.

The two disciplines are complementary and inseparable. UI focuses on the technical and aesthetic expertise of the interface, while UX relates to the users’ judgment and experience.
